We hope you will join us Wednesday, February 20, for the latest in our Aviation Webinar Series.

2019 is shaping up as a critical year for regulatory developments affecting operators of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). In the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, Congress directed the FAA to work faster on setting UAS design standards and opening the airspace to commercial package delivery. Congress also chartered new reports on state and local control of low level airspace and the need for federal privacy laws.

On top of that, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao has just unveiled two long-anticipated FAA rulemaking efforts that will have a major impact on the future of the unmanned aircraft industry. The first is a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) covering UAS flight over people and at night. The second effort is an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) seeking public comment on several significant UAS safety and security issues.

In this 90-minute complimentary webinar, aviation/UAS attorneys Mark McKinnon and Jim Eastwood will unpack the contents of these highly-significant regulatory initiatives and what these proposals mean for the UAS community. Among the topics to be covered are:

  • The FAA’s performance based approach to flight over people and what it means for manufacturers and operators.
  • Night operations and how the FAA waiver process has helped lead to a simplified procedure for night flight.
  • The potential for new stand-off distances and performance limitations for UAS operations.
  • Expansion of the list of prohibited UAS payloads
  • Development of design requirements for UAS that conduct complex operations such as beyond visual line of sight flight and the future of unmanned traffic management.
  • How will the lack of a remote identification system impact the rulemaking process.
  • How is the FAA doing on complying with the new Congressional mandates.

Secretary Chao has said that the final versions of the new rulemaking will be published in the Federal Register as soon as possible. Once that occurs, the clock starts ticking on the 60-day Notice and Comment period, allowing members of the public to  weigh in on the FAA’s proposals.

By attending this webinar, you  will be in a perfect position to make your views known to the decision-makers in Washington.

As always, the audience will also have an opportunity to ask questions and shape the discussion. You will not want to miss this
no-holds-barred discussion on how these important regulations will affect all aspects of the UAS industry for years to come.

We hope you can join us!
